Hajj 2026 Begins as Over 1.5 Million Muslims Gather in Makkah for the Annual Pilgrimage
More than 1.5 million Muslims from around the world have gathered in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj 2026, one of the five pillars of Islam. Despite regional tensions and ongoing global challenges, millions of pilgrims have arrived in the holy city of Makkah to begin the sacred journey, united in worship, humility, and devotion to Allah.
A Journey Rooted in Faith
Hajj commemorates the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Prophet Ismail (AS), and Hazrat Hajira (AS). According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Prophet Ismail (AS) rebuilt the Holy Kaaba on the command of Allah, making it the spiritual centre for Muslims across the world. The ritual of Sa'i, performed between the hills of Safa and Marwa, honours Hazrat Hajira's unwavering faith as she searched for water for her infant son before the miracle of Zamzam took place.
A Powerful Reminder After the Pandemic
For many Muslims, this year's pilgrimage also serves as a reminder of the unprecedented restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when only a limited number of pilgrims were permitted to perform Hajj. The largely empty Grand Mosque became a symbol of an extraordinary period in modern history, making the return of millions of worshippers even more meaningful.
Millions United in Worship
As pilgrims gather under the summer sun, the sound of "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik" echoes across the holy sites of Makkah. Regardless of nationality, language, or background, Muslims stand together in a powerful display of unity, equality, and submission to Allah. For many believers, completing Hajj represents the fulfilment of a lifelong dream and a deeply personal spiritual milestone.
A Prayer for Peace
The Pakistan Times extends its prayers for the safety and acceptance of the Hajj of all pilgrims. May Allah accept their worship, grant peace to the Muslim Ummah, and bless the world with harmony and stability.
