Human Cost: A Bleeding Land – 100 Days of War on Iran
Special Report by Pakistan Times Live
Islamabad: June 07, 2026
Sunday marks 100 days into a war that US President Donald Trump claimed would finish "very fast." However, the numbers emerging from the first 100 days of the US-Israel war on Iran paint a devastating picture of destruction, displacement, and global economic turmoil.
**🚨 Human Cost: A Bleeding Region**
The war has claimed at least 7,000 lives in its first 100 days. According to verified reports, 3,593 people have been confirmed killed in Lebanon, 3,468 in Iran, and 29 in Gulf states. Iranian attacks have also killed 26 Israelis and 13 US soldiers.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has described the Israeli invasion as "a scorched-earth policy and collective punishment," with Israeli forces now occupying nearly a fifth of Lebanon — 2,000 square kilometers. Israeli forces have pushed past the Litani River to the outskirts of Nabatieh, reaching the Zahrani River, 10 kilometers north of their stated objective.
**🏠 Displacement Crisis: Millions Homeless**
More than one million Lebanese have been displaced from their homes. In Iran, over three million people have been internally displaced, according to the UNHCR. The 3.8 million Afghan refugees already living in Iran have become particularly vulnerable, with up to 20,000 people displaced along Iran's borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
**⛽ Strait of Hormuz: A Global Economic Blow**
The Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of global oil once flowed, is now largely blocked. Daily ship transits have plummeted from approximately 100 before the war to an average of just seven.
Brent crude prices have surged from $70 to $120 per barrel, currently hovering around $100. Some 146 countries have seen fuel price hikes, with inflation skyrocketing 90% in Myanmar, 50% in Nigeria, and 40% in Peru. The UN World Food Programme has warned that rising fuel and transport costs are pushing millions closer to hunger.
**💰 Economic Devastation: Billions in Losses**
The war is costing the US approximately $2 billion per day, with long-term costs potentially surpassing $1 trillion. In Iran, 27 power plants, 19 oil refineries, and 14 petrochemical plants have been destroyed, leaving 78% of the country without electricity or water and oil exports completely halted. Iran's inflation rate has soared to 280%. Israel has suffered $38 billion in direct economic losses, with its tourism industry completely paralyzed.
**🤝 Diplomatic Failures: Pakistan's Mediation and Stalled Talks**
Pakistan has played a key mediation role since the war began, brokering a two-week ceasefire on April 8 and hosting direct talks on April 11-12, but those negotiations failed to produce a breakthrough. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has since traveled to Tehran with new proposals, but progress remains elusive.
Iran has suspended indirect negotiations with the US in protest over continued Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon. Meanwhile, the US is reportedly building a 100-member technical team for potential nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Experts say a durable peace agreement appears increasingly unlikely given the Trump administration's unprofessional approach and Iran's deepening distrust. While global powers seek an end to the war, continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon repeatedly sabotage peace prospects.
Pakistan Times Live is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide readers with further analysis and breaking news regarding these serious developments.
