Israel's Brutal Face: Oppression and Violence in Lebanon, the World Remains Silent
Special Analytical Report by Pakistan Times Live

While the world's attention is fixed on the US-Iran technical talks in Burgenstock, a tragedy is unfolding in southern Lebanon. Israel, which signed the first clause of the peace agreement calling for an "immediate and permanent end to military operations on all fronts," continues to target Lebanon's innocent civilian population today. This is the same Israel that assures the world it wants peace, but in reality, it is making war a means of its survival.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 4,057 people have been martyred in Israeli attacks since March 2, including children, women, and healthcare workers. The number of injured has exceeded 12,121, while over one million people have been displaced. Israel has destroyed or damaged more than 68,000 homes. These figures are not those of a war but of systematic brutality.
When the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced on Friday, June 19, people hoped the bloodshed would stop. But Israel launched airstrikes on southern Lebanon just one hour after the ceasefire announcement. In just two days after the ceasefire, more than 83 people were killed in Israeli attacks. Hezbollah says Israel has violated the ceasefire more than 300 times. The Lebanese Prime Minister has accused Israel of adopting a "scorched earth" policy.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has openly declared that the Israeli military will not withdraw from the "security zone" in southern Lebanon. He said there is no restriction on Israeli forces operating in Lebanon. According to Amnesty International, Israel has issued large-scale unlawful evacuation orders in Lebanon, which it calls a "war crime." Israel has occupied approximately 20 percent of Lebanese territory.
According to experts, Israel is not happy with this agreement and wants to sabotage it by escalating tensions in Lebanon. King's College London analyst Ahron Bergman says Netanyahu will do everything possible to sabotage the agreement, and his weapon will be Lebanon. According to US intelligence, Netanyahu's political survival depends on continuing the war. Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir openly stated that "for every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers should cry. All of Lebanon should burn."
US Vice President JD Vance warned Israel that it cannot solve its problems through killing. But these verbal warnings are not enough. France and the UK have tried to pressure Israel, but no concrete action has been taken. Iran had made it clear in the agreement that a ceasefire in Lebanon was its condition, but Israel is ignoring it.
This agreement stands at a fragile moment. On one hand, the US and Iran have signed a historic peace deal; on the other, Israel continues its operations in Lebanon. The question is: can the US really stop Israel? Trump himself has criticized Israel, but no practical pressure has been applied. Until the US makes Israel bound to the agreement, this peace will remain confined to paper.
The reality is that Israel does not allow peace in the world. It is making war a means of its political survival, and innocent Lebanese civilians are paying the price. For Pakistan, this is the biggest challenge. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Army Chief must not only advance the talks between the US and Iran but also convince Israel to agree to a ceasefire.
Pakistan Times Live is closely monitoring the ongoing bloodshed in Lebanon and the talks in Burgenstock. The coming hours will decide the fate of this agreement.
