Pakistan's Diplomatic Triumph and the Tragedy of Terrorism
Special report : the Pakistan times
Islamabad desk: 20 June 2026
Today is June 20, 2026, and for Pakistan, this day has brought a strange mix of achievements and sorrow. On one hand, Pakistan is being praised globally for playing a key role in the historic peace agreement between the United States and Iran, while on the other hand, cowardly terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have plunged the entire nation into grief. Let us take a detailed l the Pakistan time seook at today's major events according to Pakistan Standard Time.
At 9:00 AM, a powerful bomb blast occurred in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting a pickup truck full of passengers. The explosion resulted in the immediate death of four people and left several others injured. Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and began shifting the wounded to nearby hospitals.
At 10:00 AM, while the injured were being taken to the hospital, another powerful explosion took place approximately one kilometer away from the first site, killing three more people and injuring three others. According to police, both blasts were carried out via remote control, indicating that the terrorists had planned ahead to prevent the wounded from reaching the hospital.
At 12:00 PM, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned these attacks and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. President Zardari made it clear in his statement that these terrorist elements want to damage Pakistan's diplomatic achievements and peace efforts, but Pakistan will not be deterred by these cowardly acts and will continue its war against terrorism.
At 3:00 PM, US President Donald Trump, during a press conference, described Pakistan as extremely helpful in the peace agreement with Iran. This agreement, dubbed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding by global media, is a clear testament to Pakistan's diplomatic acumen. Trump said that the Pakistani leadership has deep and historical familiarity with Iranian officials, which played a vital role in making these difficult negotiations successful.
At 4:00 PM, Pakistan's Caretaker Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told the media that the scheduled talks between Iran and the United States, set to take place on the 19th in Switzerland, have been postponed and will resume after the end of the Islamic month, i.e., after July 15. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has left for Tehran, the capital of Iran, to meet with officials there and review the progress of the negotiations.
At 6:00 PM, news of airstrikes by Afghanistan inside Pakistan against alleged militant hideouts further escalated regional tensions. These strikes were carried out along the border areas of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which Afghanistan's defense ministry claimed were ISIS-K strongholds. However, Pakistan strongly rejected these allegations, stating that terrorist groups are actually operating from areas under Afghan Taliban control.
At 8:00 PM, Pakistan's security forces launched a joint operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and conducted raids to arrest those involved in the attacks. According to military sources, some suspects have been taken into custody in the initial phase, and interrogations are underway.
All of today's events teach us an important and dual lesson. On one hand, Pakistan is playing the role of a strong diplomatic bridge for global peace and presenting a positive image internationally, while on the other hand, it is also facing cowardly conspiracies of terrorism within the country. This is a sensitive time when we should offer special prayers for our homeland and give our full support to our security forces. May Allah grant the martyrs the highest rank in Jannat-ul-Firdaus and grant speedy recovery to the injured. Long live Pakistan.
