The ‘Badge of Honor’: Israeli Settlers Dismiss Global Condemnation Amidst West Bank Violence
The Pakistan Times Live (Special Report)
When the European Union recently issued sanctions against Israeli settler groups and their leaders, the move was widely viewed as a significant international development. However, these hardline groups dismissed the measures as a "badge of honor." This response reflects a dangerous ideology that justifies ongoing violence in the occupied West Bank as a "divine mandate."
A close look at the situation reveals that this is not merely a land dispute, but a systemic loop of "Jewish supremacy." Since October 2023, the nexus of Israeli forces and settlers has resulted in 1,168 Palestinian deaths and over 12,666 injuries. During this period, more than 33,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced, while 23,000 have been detained without legal justification. From the South Hebron Hills to the villages around Nablus and Ramallah, Palestinians watch helplessly as their homes, vehicles, and olive groves are reduced to ashes.
This violence is fueled by an Israeli government structure that includes ministers like Smotrich and Ben-Gvir, who are themselves products of the settler movement. As Al-Haq’s deputy director Tahseen Elayyan noted, these settlers now feel emboldened to raid densely populated Palestinian villages, operating under full state protection.
According to Tel Aviv University professor Daniel Bar-Tal, the belief that "this land was given by God" absolves these settlers of moral and legal boundaries. Human rights groups like B’Tselem argue that Israel operates as an apartheid regime based on Jewish supremacy, and global silence or weak sanctions only strengthen this "closed loop." Today, The Pakistan Times Live asks: will mere verbal condemnation stop this systematic brutality, or will this cycle continue to shame humanity?
