Hamas' newly elected leader Khalil Al-Hayya delivered his first televised speech on Wednesday, addressing the Palestinian people and expressing his commitment to rebuilding Gaza, securing the release of prisoners, and establishing a free Palestinian state a longstanding position of Hamas.

In his speech, Al-Hayya addressed the "patient and steadfast Palestinian people" and said that Hamas would work to rebuild Gaza, alleviate the suffering of its people, and secure the release of political prisoners held in Israel. He pledged to unite Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem into a "free and proud Palestine."


Al-Hayya was elected as the new head of Hamas' political bureau on Monday by the General Shura Council, defeating former political chief Khaled Meshaal in a run-off vote.


Commitment to Rebuilding Gaza and Resistance


Al-Hayya said that Hamas would prioritize the reconstruction of Gaza and do everything possible to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people. He stated, "Resistance is the right of the Palestinians." He added that they would continue on this path.


He also thanked countries that have tried to end Israel's war and said that Hamas welcomes all efforts for peace, but will not give up its fundamental rights.


Israeli and International Response


There was no immediate response from Israel to the speech. However, Israeli media described Al-Hayya's statements as "incendiary." The United Nations and the United States have not issued any official reaction, but sources say they are closely monitoring the stance of Hamas' new leadership.
