At least nine people have been killed in a fresh exchange of drone and missile attacks between Russia and Ukraine, according to local officials.

Ukrainian authorities reported that four civilians died in Russian strikes. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 70-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were killed when a Russian drone hit their home. In the Kherson region, a 60-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were killed during the attack.

On the other side, Russian officials said five people were killed in Ukrainian attacks. Four were killed and four injured in the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia region. One person was also killed in Russia's Samara region.

The attacks come amid a recent escalation in Russian air strikes against Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again called on Western countries to provide more air defense systems, as Ukraine is critically short of Patriot missiles.
