At least 11 civilians, including a child, were injured after Russia launched an overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, according to Ukrainian officials. The strikes caused fires in several districts and damaged residential buildings, warehouses, and critical infrastructure.
Local authorities said explosions were heard in parts of the city during the early hours of the morning as air defense systems responded to the attack. Emergency teams were deployed to multiple locations to extinguish fires and assist affected residents.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault involving missiles and drones. While many of the incoming weapons were intercepted by air defense systems, several missiles and drones reached their targets, causing damage across different areas of Kyiv.
Officials reported that fires broke out in office buildings, warehouses, and power-related facilities, while several homes and vehicles also suffered damage. Rescue operations continued throughout the morning as authorities assessed the full extent of the destruction.
The latest strike comes as Ukraine continues to request additional air defense support from its international partners. Ukrainian leaders have repeatedly warned that stronger defensive capabilities are needed to better protect civilians and critical infrastructure from ongoing aerial attacks.
Meanwhile, Russia stated that its military targeted facilities linked to Ukraine's defense industry and infrastructure. Independent verification of the claims made by both sides remains difficult during the ongoing conflict.
The attack highlights that the war continues to pose serious risks to civilians despite international diplomatic efforts. Security experts believe that continued missile and drone attacks could further increase humanitarian challenges and place additional pressure on regional stability if tensions remain unresolved.
