South African football has suffered a huge loss as national team midfielder Jayden Adams has passed away at the age of 25. Adams represented South Africa at the FIFA World Cup 2026 last month, and his death has left the entire football community in mourning.


The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) confirmed his death on Saturday, however, no official cause of death has been released. The union said in its statement: "Jayden recently represented South Africa at the FIFA World Cup, carrying the nation's hopes with pride, courage, and distinction. His passing is an irreplaceable loss to his family, teammates, clubs, the football community, and the country as a whole."


Adams played three matches for South Africa at the World Cup, starting in the 1-1 draw against the Czech Republic and the 2-0 loss to Mexico, while coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over South Korea. He was an unused substitute in the knockout match against Canada on June 28.


A Story of Struggle and Dedication


Jayden Adams' football journey is an example of struggle and dedication. He began his career at Stellenbosch FC, where he showcased his talent. He later joined Mamelodi Sundowns, where he played a key role in helping the team win the CAF Champions League.


Adams was an emotional and sensitive player. He dedicated his CAF Champions League medal to his late teammate Oshwin Andries, who passed away in 2023 after being stabbed. This act reflects his loyalty and humanity.
