Field Marshal Asim Munir Arrives in Turkey for First Mecca Defense Pact Meeting

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has arrived in Turkey on an official visit ahead of the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, formed under the trilateral Mecca joint defense agreement between Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. According to Pakistan Army's public relations wing, the Field Marshal's visit comes as preparations are finalized for this first high-level sitting of the committee.

First Committee Meeting Set for August 31 in Istanbul

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee  established under the Mecca joint defense pact signed between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia will be held in Istanbul on August 31. The committee is designed to serve as the primary coordinating body overseeing implementation of the agreement, bringing together senior political and military leadership from all three countries to discuss strategic and defense matters under the pact's framework.

Dar's Visit Precedes Munir's Arrival

Field Marshal Munir's arrival in Turkey follows shortly after a visit by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, who had already traveled to the country in connection with the same diplomatic track. The back-to-back visits by Pakistan's top military and diplomatic leadership underscore the importance Islamabad is placing on this first formal sitting of the trilateral committee, and suggest coordinated engagement across both the political and military dimensions of the pact ahead of the Istanbul meeting.

What the Mecca Defense Pact Represents

The Mecca joint defense agreement brought together three influential Muslim-majority states  Pakistan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia  under a shared strategic and defense cooperation framework.
