The death toll from the devastating floods that struck Nepal on Wednesday has risen sharply to 616, officials confirmed, up from the earlier reported figure of 579. Rescue and recovery operations remain underway across the worst-affected areas as authorities continue to update casualty figures.
Rising Toll Across the Border in Tibet
Across the border, Chinese state media reported that the official death toll in Tibet has climbed to seven. Far more alarming, however, is the number of people still unaccounted for — 554 individuals remain missing in the region, raising concerns that the final casualty count could rise significantly further.
Search and Rescue Operations Continue
With hundreds still missing on both sides of the border, rescue teams continue combing through debris, damaged riverbanks, and affected settlements in search of survivors and the deceased. Given the scale of destruction, officials have not ruled out further increases in the confirmed death toll as recovery work progresses.
