Eid Milad-un-Nabi holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims across Pakistan, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with religious gatherings, Naat recitals, and grand processions in every major city. Karachi, the country's largest city, is once again preparing for large-scale celebrations. Here's a look at the significance of the day, details of Karachi's central processions, and the special traffic plan issued for the occasion.

The Significance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi for Muslims

Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed by Muslims around the world to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose life and teachings remain a source of guidance, love, and devotion for the Muslim Ummah. Across Pakistan, the occasion is marked with Milad gatherings, Seerat-un-Nabi conferences, decorated streets, and processions that reflect the deep affection Muslims hold for the Prophet (PBUH). The day serves as a reminder of his teachings of compassion, justice, and brotherhood, values that continue to resonate strongly with people across the country.

Karachi's Three Central Processions

According to Karachi Traffic Police, three central processions will be taken out in the city this year. The first central procession will depart from Shaheed Masjid, Kharadar, under the leadership of Maulana Yaqoob Attari at around 2:30 PM. The procession will pass through New Memon Masjid before concluding at Gulzar-e-Habib Masjid around Asr time. Two additional central processions will also take place in other parts of the city, drawing large numbers of participants.

Traffic Plan and Road Closures

Karachi Traffic Police has issued a special traffic plan for the day of the processions. MA Jinnah Road will remain closed to general traffic for the duration of the processions, and only vehicles carrying special passes will be allowed entry on this route. Commuters are advised to plan alternate routes in advance to avoid inconvenience, particularly around the areas the processions pass through.

Security Arrangements

As is customary for large religious gatherings in Karachi, law enforcement agencies deploy a significant number of personnel along procession routes to maintain law and order. Police, Rangers, and volunteer organizations are typically stationed at key points, with additional security measures such as walk-through gates and CCTV monitoring along the procession paths.

Celebrations Across Other Cities

Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions are not limited to Karachi. Cities across Pakistan, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta, also host their own central processions each year, with local traffic and police departments issuing separate traffic and security plans tailored to their respective routes.

Pakistan Time Analysis

Karachi's central processions are scheduled to begin in the early afternoon, Pakistan local time, with the first procession departing around 2:30 PM and concluding by Asr time in the evening. Given the scale of the event, commuters are advised to check updated traffic advisories throughout the afternoon, as road closures around MA Jinnah Road and adjoining areas typically remain in effect until the processions fully conclude.
