Petrol Price Hiked: New Rate Rs343.10 Per Litre, Diesel Also Up
Petroleum Products Get Costlier, New Fuel Prices Announced
The Pakistan times
Petroleum prices in Pakistan have been increased once again, adding fresh pressure on consumers already grappling with rising inflation. According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices have gone up, effective immediately.
What Are the New Petrol and Diesel Prices?
As per the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs1.12 per litre, taking the new petrol price to Rs343.10 per litre. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs1.11 per litre, setting the new HSD price at Rs371.80 per litre.
This marks yet another hike in a series of frequent price adjustments that have become routine since Pakistan shifted to a daily petroleum pricing mechanism earlier this year.
OGRA Notification Details
The Petroleum Division issued the notification on Tuesday, stating that the revised prices reflect ongoing volatility in international oil markets. OGRA now determines petroleum prices on a daily basis, a move aimed at ensuring that shifts in global markets are passed on to consumers more quickly and transparently, without the delays caused by weekly or bureaucratic approval processes.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik stated that daily prices are calculated using a seven-day rolling average of international market prices, in line with global industry practice.
When Do the New Prices Take Effect?
According to the notification, the revised petrol and diesel prices will remain applicable for August 26 and 27, 2026. The new rates came into effect at midnight Pakistan Standard Time, following OGRA's shift to a daily pricing framework that no longer requires prior approval from the cabinet or the federal government.
Pakistan Time Analysis
The price hike was officially notified on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026, and the new rates took effect from midnight, marking the start of the two-day pricing window. The Rs343.10 petrol rate and Rs371.80 diesel rate will remain in place through August 26 and August 27, after which OGRA will issue its next notification based on updated international oil benchmarks. Consumers across the country are advised to check pump rates each night after midnight, as the daily pricing model means fresh adjustments can be announced at any time.
Reason Behind the Price Increase
The latest hike comes amid continued fluctuations in global crude oil prices, driven largely by geopolitical tensions affecting international energy markets. Earlier this month, the government had also approved an increase in the dealers' margin on petrol and diesel by Rs1.34 per litre, raising it from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre, following demands from fuel station operators across the country. That decision led the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association to postpone a planned nationwide strike.
Impact on the Public
The repeated increase in fuel prices is expected to add further strain on transportation costs and, consequently, on the prices of essential goods across the country. Pakistan's short-term inflation had already risen by 0.49 percent in the week ending August 20, 2026, driven partly by higher petrol prices, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
With fuel prices now being revised on a daily basis, consumers and businesses alike will need to keep a close watch on upcoming notifications, as further adjustments cannot be ruled out in the coming days.
